YUCCA VALLEY NEWS | LOCAL REPORTING · 2026
Yucca Valley’s planned Aquatics and Recreation Center has passed 80 percent construction completion, according to the town’s official project update, bringing a long-discussed public recreation investment closer to opening. The town says it is targeting completion in fall 2026, but it has not published a confirmed public opening date in the cited update.
Progress reported by the town
The update lists completed structural steel for the solar canopy, plaster scratch-coat work in parts of the project and installation of storm drainage. The next steps include interior finishes and a pool deck pour. These are construction milestones rather than evidence that the pools and gym are ready for patrons.
What the center is designed to offer
According to town project materials, the facility includes an indoor aquatics component, spaces for fitness and multipurpose activity, and recreational programs for multiple age groups. Proposed offerings include swim instruction, lap swim, recreational swim, water aerobics, gymnasium sports and other classes. Program details, fees and enrollment procedures will require a final activities guide.
Where the money comes from
The town says Proposition 68, approved by California voters in 2018, helped make the project possible. Older capital project documents describe a broader funding package using the state grant, reserves and other sources. Budget figures in earlier documents should not be treated as a current final cost without a newer town financial report.
What residents need before planning a visit
Families and sports organizations need a confirmed first day of operations, membership or entry prices, swim lesson registration, accessibility provisions and activity hours. The town says those details will be published separately. Yucca Valley News will track the transition from construction updates to actual public opening information.
