YUCCA VALLEY / JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK — October 26, 2026. Tomorrow’s National Park Service fee-free day gives eligible local residents and visitors an opportunity to enter Joshua Tree National Park without paying the usual entrance charge on Tuesday, October 27. The observance marks Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday and is one of the federal government’s designated 2026 entrance-fee holidays.
Free entry is not free camping
NPS says free entrance days cover the standard park admission charge for qualifying U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Camping reservations, special-use permits and additional services can still carry fees. The rule does not turn reservation-only campsites into first-come, first-served facilities; confirm your own overnight plans before driving out.
Under the 2026 fee structure, international nonresidents should verify applicable regular entrance and nonresident charges. It would be incorrect to advertise October 27 as a free day for everyone regardless of residency.
Practical planning from Yucca Valley
The park has different access points across the high desert, and a trip from Yucca Valley is different from arriving via Twentynine Palms or the southern I-10 approach. Before choosing a destination within the park, check the official entrances, trail alerts, temperature and fuel needs. Carry water and daylight-planning essentials; a waived entrance fee does not reduce desert exposure or rescue risks.
